How a Dumbwaiter Load Test Works

The load test is the heart of factory testing. In practice:

  1. The cab is loaded with weights to the rated load (and often to 125% for the brake test on heavier units).
  2. The car runs a full cycle to each landing; travel is observed for smoothness and correct direction.
  3. The brake is tested with the loaded car at rest — it must hold without creep.
  4. Overload behaviour is verified: the unit should refuse to run, or alarm, above its rating.
  5. The results are recorded on the test sheet with date, load, and technician signature.

  • Third-party inspection — an SGS/BV-style inspector witnesses the load test and checks the unit against the order spec.

Testing continues after the crate opens. Commissioning on site should include:

  • Door interlock verification at every landing — the car must not move with a door open.
  • Levelling check at each floor with a loaded car.

Before you sign off, ask for and keep these documents:
